|Jet Park Hotel’s new 250 person conference centre reached a big milestone this week and to celebrate the hotel hosted the construction team to a “roof wetting” BBQ on site. Hirini Maguire is the Site Manager from Watts and Hughes and is pleased to see the structure 97% completed. The project’s focus is now largely on the internal-works for the conference areas as well as the 60 new guest rooms. The next milestone for the 80-strong team, says Hirini will be “power-on” for the site- The electrical sub-contractor is Ward Chandler. Having power and reducing the need for long extension cables makes a big difference to the crew. Hirini and Ashley Schierhout, Project Manager from Jet Park Hotel reflect on “weather” being one of the challenges in the construction to date.
The construction crew, including sub-contractors enjoyed what they said was, “one of the best shouts” they’ve had on a site. The hotel’s F&B and Front Office Managers cooked prawns, steak, and large German bratwurst sausages and everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break from the hard work which began in February 2015 to bring the project to this point.
The team consists of talented workers from New Zealand and all over the world. To name a few; Ian a Jamaican and Zaid from Egypt who are working on the timber framing; Alma a Design Engineer and Project Manager who is from Bosnia and responsible for the installation of the complex air-conditioning system. She is also the only woman on site. Alma explains that the sophisticated and efficient system and the benefits it will bring to the business with around 100 kilo-watt savings. A challenge she says has been finding the space to fit all the equipment.
Liz Herrmann, Director of Jet Park Hotel and Ashely Schierhout are spear-heading the project and are thrilled that this mile-stone has been reached. They are now focussing on the endless, but interesting details involved in the interior design and the hotel’s entire management team are moving into action to ready each of their departments for opening in June 2016.
The large conference centre will be able to host all manner of meetings, gala dinners, small trade shows, weddings etc. and the views from the top-floor provide a beautiful back-drop for functions whilst an out-door landscaped garden for break-out space and deck overlooking a pond will be another eye-pleaser for attendees.
