Sonja has been in her role as Human Resources Manager since September 2007 and like her brothers, Ashley and Sebastian has watched the hotel expand from it’s opening in 1998.  She originally worked in the mental health sector for 7 years and obtained a post-graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation, after which she joined the family business.  There is an obvious connection between her passion for working with and for people and being a part of the hospitality industry and HR Management.  She states “every day is different and brings new challenges and opportunities to work with the 115 staff the hotel employs”.  She also contributes to the hotel’s strategic planning,  and marketing work. 

Sonja Plays a pivotal role in developing our creative elements, whether its copy for our latest Jetstream newsletter, designing the hotel brochure with Sebastian, or thinking up great new ways to encourage, train or inspire our staff.  Sonja is also the driving force for much of our Environmental and community work.  She co-ordinates our efforts, gets everyone on task and keeps tabs on how we are going. 

Another great talent of Sonja’s is her artwork some of which can be seen around the hotel in our rooms.  The mixed media on canvas works are all hand painted, original and unique, and are inspired by many different themes.

Sonja’s other full-time job is being mum to her little boy Xavier and spends her free time with her husband enjoying New Zealand’s outdoors, friends, and family.  Weekend activity often involves orienteering, a long bike ride in the bush, kayaking, tramping or 12 hour adventure races.
