Sebastian Herrmann was appointed General Manager of Jet Park Hotel in May 2009 but he’s been with the hotel most of the time since it was built in 1998. Sebastian began his career in the hospitality industry when he was 5 years old - along with his brother Ashley, and sister Sonja, who also work at Jet Park Hotel. He comments on his first experience “I poured a scotch on the rocks for my dad, and decided to garnish it with lemon and mint, much to my father’s horror!” The Herrmann family were brought up on the South African Gold Mines, where large functions were common-place. His parents loved cooking and entertaining and so “hospitality” has been instilled in him from a young age. His earlier roles at Jet Park include hotel porter, receptionist, Conference co-ordinator, Front Office Manager and Operations Manager.
Sebastian is probably one of Auckland’s youngest hotel GM’s and has developed an impressive skill base in IT infrastructure and systems, hotel operations, Sales & Marketing, E-commerce, and management which comes from “learning about and inventing what we need for the hotel, when we need it.” He loves working with an exceptional team within a quality product - asserting that you can’t have one without the other. Keeping an eye on the big picture is Sebastian’s focus along with striving hard to inspire the team to be innovative and to find ways to add value to guest experiences.
Sebastian has also spent some time working for the Edge (Aotea Centre, Town Hall, Civic Theatre) in Auckland, a Vodafone dealership, and as a Radio Host on Coromandel FM!
Sebastian, believe it or not, does have spare time and fills this with ocean swimming and swim training, travelling and is enthusiastic about cooking at home for friends and family, and sharing great food and wine. He also believes he has the potential to become a racing car driver, but quietly we know it’s just his obsession with cars and motor sports.
