Matt began following in his mother’s footsteps when he found work in the cafés around the waterfront suburbs of Auckland, now over 14 years ago. Although born in Rarotonga, he’d grown up in Auckland.
Matt’s mother had spent around 30 years in hospitality so following her into the industry seemed a natural progression.
Hotel or restaurant kitchens are sometimes not places for the faint-hearted, but Matt loves the ‘passion’ that sometimes overflows there.
He also enjoys the diversity of both the staff at Jet Park, and the continuous stream of guests from around the world.
A career highlight was winning a silver medal in Commis Chef of the Year in 1998.
Matt hopes his guests enjoy the professionalism of the hotel and its close proximity to the many local attractions.
A keen reggae music fans who enjoys a host of outdoor sports, his dream destination would be Jamaica, to visit the Bob Marley Museum.
